Befriending
Key aspects of befriending include:
Befriending can reduce feelings of isolation
A “Purpose for their day” whilst brightening someone's day, and remind them that they are valued and not alone.
It’s a simple yet profoundly impactful act of kindness.
We always make sure the person feels Safe, Heard & Valued.
Face-to-face visits for friendly chats or shared activities.
Befriending a person who lives with dementia involves offering companionship inside and outside of their home, including emotional support, and understanding in a way that respects their unique needs and experiences.
It means forming a trusting and caring relationship, often by engaging in meaningful conversations, whether it be in a cafe, garden centre or a place that is of interest to them or maybe just in the comfort of their home, as well as other shared activities, or simply being present to provide a sense of connection and comfort.
